Nyambe adpoted for Mongu

By MAIMBO MWEEMBA

The ruling United Party for National Development (UPND) has adopted Nyambe Muyumbana for the Mongu District Mayoral elections slated for April 14, 2022.

Speaking at press briefing in Lusaka, Party Chairperson for elections Garry Nkombo said twelve party members expressed interest in contesting the election.

Mr Nkombo said the party decided to settle for Mr Muyumbana because he has attributes of an early morning winner.

“I want to state the parties gratitude to all the candidates that showed interest to be flag bearers in this election,” he said.

The Mongu District Mayoral by election has been necessitated by the death of Mongu Mayor Matakala Nyambe, who died in a road traffic accident in Mkushi last month, as he was travelling from Nakonde district.

And Mr Nkombo said the party has also adopted Peter Chanda for the Lukutu ward by-election for the Luwingu town council and Brian Chingula for the Monze town council in the Katimba ward by election.

Last week the Electoral Commission of Zambia (ECZ) postponed the holding of polls in the Mongu Maroyal by-elections.
