Zesco United Coach Numba Mumamba has bemoaned the numerous chances his team failed to convert in their 1-0 loss to Nkana on Saturday.
Mumamba said his charges worked hard coming from a mid-week win over Kabwe Warriors but failed to convert their chances.
Midfielder Jacob Ngulube’s first half header handed Zesco their second defeat of the season in a Week Seven encounter played before a capacity crowd at Nkana stadium.
“We are disappointed because we didn’t expect these results. This is a game that we controlled and created numerous chances which could have made a difference but unfortunately we were not clinical at goal.
“We are happy with everyone, we did very well and we controlled the game but the only problem we face is finishing. We found ourselves in good scoring positions, but our finishing is lacking,” he said.
Mumamba said his charges could have collected maximum points if they were clinical at goal.
“We have a big squad which can play a congested line of fixtures. That element of fatigue doesn’t come in. We were not clinical at goal, we were poor at finishing,” Numba said in a post-match interview.
Defeat to Nkana means that Zesco have now downgraded to seventh on the log from fourth with nine points.
And Nkana Coach Beston Chambeshi said the win is a good present to the supporters and applauded his charges for keeping a clean sheet.
“We wanted a win, and for sure we have collected the three points, although it wasn’t an easy game because Zesco gave us a good fight.
“The win is a good present to the supporters, they came at a right time when the team is fighting for points and we are happy with way they came to support us,” he said.
Nkana supporters where returning to Nkana Stadium for the first time after a Covid-19 restrictions were lifted.
Nkana are fifth on the log with 10 points.
