No school is safe for re-opening-NAQEZ

By ALICE NACHILEMBE

Nationalal Action for Quality Education in Zambia ( NAQEZ) says that there is no school in the Country that is safe for Teachers and learners after witnessing a wave of Covid-19 deaths among teachers from both rural and urban schools.

NAQEZ Executive Director Aaron Chansa said that the continued closure of schools has done and continue to do colossal damage but life is precious and must be protected.

Me Chansa said the organization does not support any calls that rural schools are safe and can reopen.

He said doing so would be catastrophic as rura schools are connected to urban areas .

“Right now,we have so many rural Teachers who are battling with the virus. The situation has reached dangerous levels and must be treated as a crisis. From daily statistics given by the Ministry of Health,it is clear that almost all districts ,urban and rural, have been ravaged by this virus,” he said.

Mr Chansa has appealed to Government to channel more resources into Schools in order for these institutions to begin to put measures in place for possible reopening,in the near future.

He said at themoment no effort has been done by relevant Government institutions aimed at equipping schools to effectively combat the virus.

Mr Chansa said NAQEZ will continue being on the ground to monitor Government involvement in funding and enabling schools to become much more safer for our Important Teachers and learners.
