No Requiem Mass for Bishop Hamungole

The Catholic Church in Monze Diocese says it will not conduct requiem mass for the late Bishop Moses Hamungole who died on Wednesday in Lusaka after testing positive to Covid-19.

Bishop Hamungole will be buried this Saturday on the Cathedral Grounds in Monze.

The late Bishop was admitted to Levy Mwanawasa Hospital in Lusaka two weeks ago.

Monze Diocese outgoing Vicar General, Fr Sebastian Milimo said according to instructions from the Apostolic Nuncio to Zambia and Malawi Gianfranco Gallone, there will be no Requiem Mass (Funeral Church Service) during burial on Saturday.

“After the Covid-19 situation subsides, a Requiem Mass at the Cathedral in Monze will be organised, where Bishops of Zambia, all the Priests and religious of the Diocese and all the faithful can participate,” Fr Milimo said in a statement.

Fr Milimo said each Parish will have its own requiem Mass at the same time the burial of Bishop Hamungole will be taking place on the Cathedral Grounds.

He announced that Apostolic Nuncio has further revealed that in due course the Vatican will appoint a Diocesan Administrator for Monze.

Bishop Hamungole became the Chief Sheppard of Monze in 2014 after serving as priest for 20 years.
