Mulonga water and Sewerage Company (MWSC) Managing Director Kanyembo Ndhlovu says access to clean water is a human right, hence no one should be denied access to clean and safe drinking water.
Speaking during this year’s World Water Day commemoration in Mufulira, Mr Ndhlovu said this years theme ‘Leaving No One behind’ looks at why people have been left behind and how access to water and sanitation management can be drivers of change.
He said Mulonga as a water utility is current strategic business plan is improving and bettering service delivery in the three service towns of Chingola, Chilillabombwe and Mufulira.
Mr Ndhlovu said one of its objective is water and sanitation expansion program in peri urban areas.
He said this will ensure that no one is left behind
“Water Day is about tackling the water crisis by addressing the reason why so many are left behind. This year’s theme is also aligned to the 2030 agenda for sustainable
Development goals (SDG) especially goal 6 that aims to ensure availability, and sustainable management for all.
“I appeal to all stakeholders for support because as the company we commit to remain steady fast to deliver our customers’ expectations and tackle our numerous challenges,” he said.
Speaking at the same function Mufulira Mayor Gift Mushinge said the major challenge in water and sanitation delivery to other areas in Zambia is the absence of specific external funding.
Mr Mushinge said that with the recent interventions these challenge would be over.
He said to leave no one behind, efforts should be focused towards people who have been marginalized.
The Mayor said water services must meet the needs of marginalized groups and their voices must be head.
He said Government is aware of the huge funding water projects demand and is supporting the efforts in attaining 2030 SDG6 to ensure availability and sustainable management of water and sanitation for all.
