Zambia has continued to record zero positive COVID-19 cases with today marking the sixth consecutive day,Health Minister Dr Chitalu Chilufya has said.
Speaking during the 19th COVID-19 update Dr Chilufya said 154 tests were conducted including alerts in the last 24 hours and non tested positive.
Dr Chilufya disclosed that a total of 1,239 tests have been conducted out which 39 has been positive with one death toll while recoveries remain at 7 while the active cases now stands at 31.
He said one of the patients who is 74 years old with underlying health challenges factors remain seriously ill but under the strict care of health personnel.
Dr Chilufya said 195 truck drivers have been quarantined of which 147 will be released today after they tested negative.
Dr Chilufya also reiterated that government has been transparent about the numbers and said it would be risky to falsify numbers adding that it is not helpful to play politics with the health of the nation.
“Government will continue to strengthen ability to detect cases at all ports of entry, will continue to partner with all stakeholders and invest in risk communication. ” he said.
He thanked all political leaders who have come into solidarity with government as well as the church for thier commitment to the fight.
He has further urged the community to be alert and work with health officials to help in identifying suspected cases.
“We have made strides in the fight against COVID-19, we can sustain this by adhering to the directives by staying home, exercise social distancing and keep environments clean, ensure there is a minimum of 1 meter between one person and put on masks as you engage in essential activities.” Dr Chilufya advised as he emphasized the need to follow all other prescribed guidelines.
