General Education Permanent Secretary, Jobbicks Kalumba says that there is no need to close schools despite a rise in COVID-19 cases in the country.
Speaking when he paid a courtesy call on Livingstone District Commissioner Pascalina Musokotwane, Dr. Kalumba, said the Ministry of General Education has provided an enabling environment in schools to support learning.
He said parents and guardians should not worry about the safety of the pupils because authorities are adhering to the prescribed health guidelines.
And Ms Musokotwane, assured the Permanent Secretary that schools in the district are adhering to the COVID-19 health guidelines.
Ms Musokotwane however appealed to the Ministry of General Education to address the transport challenge faced by the Department of Education in the district.
She noted that the lack of adequate transport makes it difficult for education officers to distribute learning materials including examination papers in Livingstone District.
