No job losses during liquidation of KCM-Civic leader

Action Aid and the Catholic Commission for Justice and Peace (CCJP) of Ndola Diocese held a community sensitization meeting in Chingola to address people’s concerns over the Konkola Copper Mines (KCM) liquidation.

This follows people’s concerns over liquidation and what will happen to them.

The meeting addressed the community members and explained to them the transition period of the liquidation process and what will happen afterwards.

The people wanted to know if they would be job losses and what would happened to residents from Tsopano area with cracked houses who were due for relocation.

Buntungwa Ward Councillor Soko Mumba assured the community that liquidation process is one way government can help the people of Chingola and Chililabombwe.

Mr Mumba said KCM is not just an asset for two towns but it is a nation assent and Government is doing what is best for the nation as a whole.

He educated the people on the transition at KCM and assured the people that the position of the state is to benefit the whole nation.

District Administration Officer Maximillian Makasa standing in for the District Commissioner implored the people to stay calm during the transition period, saying no one would losses jobs.

And Catholic Commissioner for Peace and Justice Manager Fr Gabriel Mapulanga said the people are concerned over issues associated with KCM like the issue of cracked house and the relocation the water pollution issues and the rest.

And Action Aid Project Manager for Copperbelt and North-western Province Brain Moyowanyambe advised the audience to relay the information received.

Mr Moyowanyambe said people should not just take anything they hear on the street as gospel truth and miscommunicate to others.

HE said they should instead consult the right people with information.
