Solwezi Mayor Nicholas Mukumbi says that the formation of the integrated Development plan (IDP) requires the input from all stakeholders in the district.
Mr Mukumbi said this is to ensure that there is no institution in the district working in silos.
He said under the urban and regional planning Act No3 of 2015 every institution in Solwezi is mandated to deliver on the sustainable Development Goals (SDG’s), Vision 2030 and the seventh National Development Plan (7NDP).
He said the Integrated IDP will help to develop the strategic framework through a consultative process.
The Mayor said that Solwezi Municipal Council as a planning authority has the responsibility to manage the rapid population growth and rapid urbanization in the district.
Mr Mukumbi said this is in an effort to improve the quality of its infrastructure and services for a safe, inclusive, climate resilient and sustainable district.
He emphasized the need for the IDP saying that without a clear strategic vision of what will contribute most effectively to the economy and social development of the district, promising development opportunities may be lost disadvantaging new investment into the district.
Mr Mukumbi said this during the IDP visioning workshop aimed at supporting, guiding and informing the development visioning process that can guide and inform development activities pending the completion of the IDP.
He said the exercise will help to prepare and assist the local authority as well as the district at large to participate effectively in the IDP preparation process to support thei district in adopting innovative, modern, efficient, participatory, strategic and integrated development planning and management practices and techniques in district operations.
