No building on KCM land-Chingola Mayor

By ALICE NACHILEMBE
Chingola Mayor Titus Tembo has warned the people encroaching on Konkola Copper Mines (KCM) land to stop it immediately.

Mr Tembo said the Chingola Council will not allow unscrupulous people giving out plots in mine area.

The Mayor together with a team from KCM visited an area beyond Lulamba Township to ascertain the levels of encroachment.

And to his surprise, he was greeted by a large crowd of people claiming to have been offered land by officials purporting to be from Chingola Council.

Mr Tembo said the enlightened the people that the land they were claiming to have been demarcated for them at a fee was mine land for KCM.

He said the mine had only allowed the people to farm on the land and not building permanent structures.

“The mine will take over the farming rights if you don’t comply. I advise you not to be entertaining thieves because only the council and ministry of land have the rights to give out land. You need to report those collecting money from you police,” he said.

And KCM Nchanga Mine Chief Surveyor Chibuye Mambwe advised people not to build anything on the mine land as they stand to lose.
