Opposition United Party for National Development (UPND) President Hakainde Hichilema has maintained his allegations that police wanted to shoot him while in Chingola.
Speaking when he addressed his supporters in Chingola this evening, Mr Hichilema said he will continue campaigning.
Mr Hichilema said no amount of intimidation from the state will stop him from exercising his constitutional right.
“What you are saying here today, has been said before, the current President knowns that he is leaving that is why he is behaving in this way, as the saying goes that is when it rains causes major ruins before leaving, that is why the economy among other things is failing, change is inevitable he said.
“How do you shoot at people going to church and they were aiming at me, the situation in this country is really sad and everything has collapsed. I am urging all Zambians to be strong and I can assure you that things will get better when we take over the running of government,” he said.
Mr Hichilema also urged party members to continue campaigning by going to door so that the party wins the August 12 general elections.
“Dawn is just about, do not fear, this is a time to be strong, please do not look back, my message to you is that be strong, they have tried to intimidate us and to take our lives but we do not fear, there is nothing to fear, what you saw this morning is thuggery by PF cadres wearing police uniform, no police officer would behave like that, once elected I will unite every Zambian” he said.
“We are not seeking public office to divide people but to unite the country, even colonists did not inflict such suffering on us, i hear there people been killed in Chingola, this is a scheme of the oppressors, I just want to call on everyone to protect each other, as we mourn with the families of those who have been killed,” he said.
