Chingola Member of Parliament Matthew Nkhuwa has given K4, 000 to each trader whose merchandise was gutted in the inferno at Malemba market.

The equal amount was given to the landladies of the gutted shops to help them repair their shops.

Speaking when he delivered the money, Mr Nkhuwa said he had received a phone call from Nicolas Chileshe, one of the victims telling him about the sad news.

“I did not promise anything but I knew I will make an impromptu visit like this one to give a relief to all those whose merchandise was burnt. I can’t replace everything which was burnt but I can only provide relief for you to recover from the loss.

“Your businesses both for the traders and the landladies was disturb so in this case I will also give the shop owners K4, 000 too so that they can repair their shops and start receiving income from rentals,” he said.

In his last visit, Mr Nkhuwa was at the same market delivering the Presidential Empowerment Fund to the marketeers amounting to K60, 000.

Speaking after receiving the money, Mr Chileshe who spoke amid sobs of comfort and disbelief thanked Mr Nkhuwa for his kind heart.

He said Chingola has never had such a Member of Parliament readily available for the constituents.

According to Mr Chileshe, the value of the good gutted for some shops were below the amount Mr Nkhuwa had provided, no wonder Rodrick Mwila another recipient could not hold his tears.

Others that were also given the money were Sampa Nonde, Bwalya Kwisha and Bertha Musenge.
