Nkhuwa explains fuel hike

Government says the increase in the pump price of fuel was necessitated by three factors among them the increase in the price of crude oil on the international market.

Minister of Energy Mathews Nkhuwa also says the finished imported products was also among the factors that led to the fuel price hike and the depreciation of the local currency against other major convertible currencies.

Mr Nkhuwa said this in parliament today during the oral answer session in responding to a question from Chinsali Central Member of Parliament Kalalwe Mukosa.

Mr Mukosa wanted to know what factors led to the increase of fuel prices on 2nd October, 2018 and what measures the Government is taking to prevent further increase on the commodity.

And Mr Nkhuwa said that government is working round the clock to find measures that can lead to the reduction in prices of fuel in the country.

He explained that once the pump price of fuel at the international market is reduced, the benefits will be presented downwards to the consumers.
