CHINGOLA Member of Parliament Matthew Nkhuwa has commissioned two 1×2 classroom blocks at George Mwelwa Primary school along Solwezi road.
The primary school which is located next to Enock Kavindele Toll Plaza along Chingola-Solwezi road has had only 1×2 classroom block servicing 456 pupils.
This forced the school management to improvise a makeshift classroom made from timber offcuts where pupils were learning from in substandard infrastructure.
Following the construction of two 1 x2 classroom blocks the school has a good learning environment.
Speaking during the commissioning of the infrastructure which was constructed in collaboration with Chingola Round Table, Siksha Foundation and Chingola Constituency Development Trust (CCDT), Mr Nkhuwa said he was touched by unconduicive learning environment.
Mr Nkhuwa said he instructed his firm Matty Investments to take over the stalled project which was being built with support of the community.
“I then approached Chingola Round Table (CRT) to help us with a 1×2 classroom block. They readily agreed. Then CRT also approached Siksha Foundation on our behalf and lobbied for another 1×2 classroom block. These are the infrastructure you are seeing today.
“The two classroom blocks have been done in record time of three weeks and have been equipped with school desks. The other one done by Matty Investments is at roof level. My job is to lobby for my constituency especially where there is urgency. Siksha Foundation will now finish the building at roof level and equip it with school desks,” he said.
Mr Nkhuwa who is also Energy Minister said development is a continuous process.
He called for the construction of Teachers’ houses at the school.
CRT Chairperson Fred Matandiko said the Chingola Round Table is there to help the needy communities to meet their dreams and aspirations.
Mr Matandiko said the preferred target for the Round Table is young age group that have virgin aspirations.
And Siska Foundation Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Hemant Desai said helping leaners is a sure way of building solid foundation.
Mr Desai said education is an investment and must be properly nurturedsnf encouraged by building proper places of learning.
Meanwhile Chingola Constituency Development Trust Chairperson John Zgambo said CCDT is looking for money to help Mr Nkhuwa to deliver to the people.
Mr Zgambo said all the money that have received by CCDT have been audited by independent auditors for transparence.
George Mwelwa started as a community school in January, 2007.
