After recording back-to-back wins against Power Dynamos and Zesco United, Nkana on Sunday suffered a setback in their quest to avoid relegation after losing to Lusaka Dynamos in Kitwe.
Dynamos beat Nkana 2-1 at Nkana Stadium to leave the Kitwe giants gasping for more wins in the remaining seven matches to avoid the drop.
Nkana coach Beston Chambeshi said in a post-match interview that losing to Lusaka Dynamos is a drawback on the part of his team who were eyeing to register a third consecutive victory.
“It’s a drawback, but it is not the end of the tournament. We have to come out and work. Seven games we are talking about 21 points so what we need is to put our heads together and mend the loopholes in the team. I think we can come out and pick some points on the way,” Chambeshi said.
Defeat left Nkana second from bottom with 28 points, nine points away from safety.
Chambeshi said Nkana will prepare for Wednesday’s encounter against Napsa Stars even though there is not enough time for preparations.
Last weekend Nkana edged nemesis Power 2-0 in a Kitwe derby and three days later snatched another famous victory over Zesco, whom they beat 1-0 at Levy Mwanawasa Stadium.
But against Dynamos, Nkana struggled to replicate the magic which saw them beat Power and Zesco.
Willy Stephanus scored a brace for the visitors while Ronald Kampamba pulled one for the home side.
Nkana will host Napsa at Nkana Stadium.
Dynamos coach Wedson Nyirenda saluted his players for beating Nkana.
Nyirenda said his charges will push the top teams to the limit as they target to finish among the top four this season.
Dynamos are fifth on the log with 43 points,12 points behind leaders Zesco United.
