Niger draw leaves Micho half satisfied

By Clement Mukuka
Chipolopolo coach Milutin “Micho” Sredojevic has expressed mixed feelings after his team gave away a lead twice to draw 3-3 against Niger in their first game of the Four-nation pre-CHAN tournament being staged in Yaoundé, Cameroon.

At some point in the game Zambia led 1-0 and 3-1 before allowing late goals to draw against Niger on Saturday at Olembe Annexe Stadium.

After the match, Micho pointed out that he was not happy with the way Zambia defended free kicks and corner kicks.

“All the three goals have come as set pieces. Defending corner kicks is generally our weakness and we need to work on that. We have given them goals which they have not created,” he told reporters in Cameroon.

Micho was however impressed with Zambia’s scoring ability.

“Satisfaction on one side that we have scored three goals and total disappointment that we have lost concentration on set pieces,” he said.

Zambia faces Uganda on Monday in their second match while hosts Cameroon takes on Niger on the same day.

“New chance against Uganda where we really need to fix all our problems and to keep up scoring boots with the same level to score but on the other side to keep it tight in the back,” Micho said.

Chipolopolo concludes the tournament on January 7 with an encounter against Cameroon with Niger facing Uganda.
