Ngwira urges Govt to do mining audits

By IREEN MULENGA
United Mineworkers Union of Zambia (UMUZ) President Wisdom Ngwira says lack of audit by Government is the reason why some Investors violate social licenses especially in the Mining sector.

Recently Mines and Minerals Development Minister Paul Kabuswe said that Investors who violate the social license with the people of Zambia will not be condoned.

Speaking in an interview, Mr Ngwira said that Government should show political will and ensure that investors work according to the terms and conditions applied in order avoid investors taking advantage of the situation.

“Another reason why the investors violet these social licenses is lack of inspection, Government should have a team of inspector to go round to ensure that these investors does what they are supposed to do, that includes Cooperate social responsibility CSR to the surrounding community,” he said.

Mr  Ngwira has since implored investors coming into Zambia to adhere to the condition agreed upon before embarking on any investment.
