By Thulasizwe Tembo in Ndola
Residents of Ndeke Township in Ndola this morning ran amok protesting against the poor state of Chiwala Road.

But quick action by police in riot gear thwarted the protests from escalating.

The residents blocked the road with fire woods and burning tyres, causing a serious traffic jam.

This blocked trucks to and from Nelhkant, Ndola Lime and Dangote.

A check at the scene by The Independent Observer staffer found the irate residents singing songs while, others mobilizing fire woods.

The police in two land cruiser vehicles, arrived at around 09:00 hours forcing the residents to scamper for safety.

Police officers then started to put off the fire and clearing the road for the trucks to start moving.

The residents later moved to a distance where they expressed their concerns.

“Ubufi bachilamo ba PF, Ba Lusambo nishi bali ba Minister, told us that this road will be worked on, but it’s now two years. We are not kids. We can’t even breathe here. There is no point of us. The only thing we can do is get sick here,” Mary Kalunga one of the residents said.

“If people call for a change of government and the MP, we should not be blamed. We have not seen any benefit from this government. All they tell us is lies.

Senior Chief Chiwala has also for a long time complained over the poor state of the road leading to his palace.
