The Ndola City Council has started enrolling students at the Mine Masala Skills Training Centre, which was recently accredited to the Technical Education, Vocational and Entrepreneurship Training Authority (TEVETA).
NDL Council Public Relations Manager Rebecca Mushota said that the enrolment of students at the Mine Masala Skills Training Centre entails that the number of spaces available for young people to access skills training in Council training facilities in Ndola has increased.
Ms Mushota said the Council offers affordable and easily accessible skills training to residents, especially
the youth at its Mushili Skills Training Centre in Mushili, Chifubu Skills Training Centre in Chifubu, Kabushi Training Centre in Kabushi and Mine Masala Skills Training Centre in Mine Masala.
She said the skills training centers offer training to the youth in order to empower them with skills even when they do not have secondary school qualifications.
Ms Mushota said that the training focuses more on practical lessons than theory lessons in order to empower many youths with skills and TEVETA and Council certificates to enable them set up their own businesses or get
employed.
She said the Council also engages sponsors to take up the K2,800 for the most vulnerable students.
The Mushili Skills Training Centre offers Cutting and Designing in Tailoring course, Cutting and Designing training in Carpentry, Plumbing, Bricklaying, Food Production, Plumbing, Metal Fabrication
and Computer studies. Chifubu Skills Training Centre offers a one year Food Production course.
Kabushi Skills Training Centre offers a Tailoring course.
