NDL Council gives discounts on property rate

The Ndola City Council has given its commercial and residential clients discounts on property rates as a response to the stakeholders’ requests for relief on the payments of bills.

NDL Public Relations Manger Rabecca Mushota said the Council has offered commercial property owners 20 per cent discount on their total bills and 30 per cent discounts to residential property owners for a limited period.

Ms Mushota said the Council decided to offer discounts after it received applications for remission of property rates from some firms and individuals with each giving various reasons.

She said the Council also received an appeal from the Ndola Chamber of Commerce to consider various forms of relief for the business sector which has suffered negative effects of the Corona Virus (COVID-19).

Ms Mushota said the applications for remission are in line with Section 22(1) of the Rating Act number 21 of 2018.

She said Ndola City Council considered the applications and decided to offer all property owners the discounts in order show solidarity to Ndola residents and businesses as the city and the local authority inclusive.

Ms Mushota said the decision has also been arrived at in order to encourage people to pay following the slow pace at which individuals and businesses that have paid the property rates this year.

She has urged members of the public to take advantage of the promotion dubbed ‘COVID-19 Relief Bonanza’ to pay their property rates from Tuesday this week to December 8, 2020.
