Mr. Nawa Mubita, Director of Administration in the Zambia Police Service, recently met with Turkish officials in Ankara to discuss his candidacy for the position of Secretary General at INTERPOL.
Mr. Nawa is one of four candidates vying for the position, which is a five-year term appointment.
During his visit, Mr. Nawa engaged in productive discussions with Mr. Muslum Ayun, Deputy Director for International Cooperation at Türkiye’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and Professor Mustafa Caliskan, Deputy General Director of the Turkish National Police.
The Turkish government expressed support for Mr. Nawa’s candidacy, acknowledging his vision for INTERPOL’s future.
Mr. Nawa emphasized the importance of collaboration, technological advancement, and regional coherence in addressing global security challenges.
He also stressed the need for enhanced international cooperation, innovative technological solutions, and community engagement to build trust between law enforcement and the public.
In addition to Turkey’s support, Mr. Nawa’s candidacy has received endorsements from the African Union Summit of Heads of State and Government and the Southern African Development Community (SADC).
Mr. Nawa has also received support from the Embassy of the Republic of Zambia to Türkiye, led by Ambassador Lt. Gen. Dr. William Maipambe Sikazwe Rtd.
Mr. Nawa will continue his campaign trail in Cairo, Egypt, and Abuja, Nigeria, before the interview for the Secretary General position on June 25, 2024, in Lyon, France.
