National Olympic Committee of Zambia (NOCZ) says it is saddened by the death of Sports administrator Matilda Mwaba
NOCZ President Alfred Foloko said Mwaba’s demise has come with a great shock as she was a committed sports administrator.
Foloko said in a statement that Mwaba’s contribution was diligent and she will be missed.
“It is with great shock that I have learnt about the demise of Mwaba who served as board member of NOCZ untill December 10, 2005, under the executive of Patrick Chamunda,”he said.
He said her contribution was diligent and she will greatly be remembered.
Foloko said Mwaba was a beacon for gender equality in sports.
“As a sports administrator, she will be remembered as having been torch bearer in the ushering other women into the sector especially through the organization National Organization for Women in Sports, Physical Activity and Recreation (NOWSPAR) which she founded, “he said.
Other than just her service to the board, she was a committed sports administrator who led the Zambia Judo Association where she served for several years.
“In this regard, NOCZ would like to join, not just the sports fraternity but the rest of the country in celebrating the life of Mwaba. We will celebrate the legacy she has left behind, particularly the agenda on women sports and we shall endeavour to partner with others for the continuation of her vision,” he said.
Mwaba was NOWSPAR Executive Director and was the first female President of the Zambia Judo Association.
