The National AIDS Council and the World Health Organization have donated 500 textbooks to the Solwezi District Education Secretariat and 22 textbooks to Kimasala Library through Solwezi Municipal Council.
The textbooks donated include Biology, Science and Mathematics for Grades 10, 11 and 12.
Solwezi Mayor Nicholas Mukumbi said this is to supplement Government’s agenda of improving the quality of education Countrywide.
Mr Mukumbi who officiated at the handover ceremony through the Acting Town Clerk Mr Chota Ngulube said the books donation is as a result of the good relationship the Council has with the National AIDS Council and the World Health Organization.
He assured the attendees that the Local Authority will continue working with various partners in an effort to improve the wellbeing of people in the district.
Mr Mukumbi is optimistic the textbooks will help teachers in the delivery of lessons to pupils in their respective classes.
National AIDS Council and World Health Organization have been commended for the gesture and other well-wishers have been urged to come on board by making various donations aimed at supplementing government’s efforts.
And the District Education Board Secretary representative Mr Felix Luputa who is the Standards Officer for Open and Distance Learning thanked the benefactors for the gesture as the books will enable sustained provision of quality education to the pupils in the district.
Mr Luputa said the donated items will go a long way in imparting knowledge to the learners as there cannot be knowledge without the source.
He stated that Solwezi district has a number of schools that require such studying material; hence the books will be put to good use.
