The National Action for Quality Education in Zambia (NAQEZ) has called on the Teaching Service Commission (TSC) to ensure inclusivity, accountability, and transparency during the upcoming recruitment of 4,200 teachers.
According to NAQEZ Executive Director Aaron Chanda, the TSC must be accountable to stakeholders during the recruitment exercise to prevent mistrust and suspicions.¹
Mr. Chanda emphasized the sensitivity of the matter, stressing that anything less than professionalism during the exercise would erode confidence in the process. He also noted that a lack of inclusivity would make it difficult for the TSC to assure the nation of a transparent process.
NAQEZ has commended the government’s decision to use the old database instead of advertising the teacher recruitment. This move is expected to reduce recurring costs for applicants and give them more chances to be employed. The organization has also urged the government to consider electronic recruitment of public service workers in the future.
Minister of Education Douglas Siakalima recently announced that the government will use the old database for the recruitment of 4,200 teachers for 2024.
