NAQEZ to monitor readiness of schools for opening

By ALICE NACHILEMBE

National Action for Quality Education in Zambia (NAQEZ) has embarked on a nationwide monitoring of schools to independently ascertain their readiness for opening amidst a deadly wave of Covid 19.

Executive Director Aaron Chansa said more than 2,500 NAQEZ members will physically visit more than 4,500 primary and secondary schools in the 10 provinces.

Mr Chansa said the visits to schools is to find, among other preparations, availability and adequacy of sanitizers , infra- red thermometers, running water and desks enough for the learners.

He said any school without the above items would be a serious danger to teachers and learners.

Mr Chansa said after the monitoring exercise, the organisation shall immediately inform the nation of the actual findings in schools.

He said the Ministry of General Education should fund schools in order to actualise the timely and important directive over opening of schools in the country.

“Without any financial commitment from the Ministry, we fear that very few schools will be ready to open on 1st February, 2021,” he said.
