National Action for Quality Education in Zambia (NAQEZ) is saddened by the poor conditions Teachers and Learners are exposed to in Luapula Province.

NAQEZ Executive Director Aron Chansa, has bemoaned poor accommodation as some teachers are still occupying grass thatched houses.

Mr Chansa said inadequate number of desks in schools while some learners sits on the floor while attending lessons is uncalled for.

Mr Chansa was speaking after he visited Chipili, Mansa, Samfya and Milenge districts of Luapula Province, to check on the challenges teachers and the education sector are facing.

He said staffing levels in most schools makes it impossible to deliver quality education in the Province.

” And the poor Teacher -pupil ratios in schools is also contributing, as some schools have two or three teachers the situation that leads to Head Teacher and Deputy Head Teacher teaching,” he said.

Mr Chansa said that the situation in Luapula is worrying because administrators have to attend to both administrative duties as well as teaching classes.

He has called on Government to address the challenges of accommodation and build decent houses for teachers.

Mr Chansa said Some teachers are Degree holders , others have acquired masters and PhDs in various educational programs hence Government should also upgrade them to a new salary scales .
