A Foreign Relations Institute in Zambia has welcomed revelations by Energy Minister Peter Kapala that Zambia and Namibia are set to sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) next month for the construction of an Oil and Gas Pipeline.

Rhoma Foreign Relations Institute Executive Director Lengwe Bwalya said that the development might be one of President Hakainde Hichilema’s legacy projects.

Mr Bwalya said that Zambia and Namibia have enjoyed a warm bilateral relations dating as far back as pre-independence times.

He said the project would go a long way in strengthening the existing bilateral relations between the two countries.

“It’s also worth noting that once this project is actualized, it will go down in memory as a signature legacy project for our President Mr Hakainde Hichilema and UPND government. It is for this reason that Rhoma Foreign Relations Institute (Rhoma Institute) urges all well meaning and forward looking Zambians to work hard in supporting progressive and sustainable initiatives such as this because of their positive economic impact,” he said.

Meanwhile, Mr Bwalya has congratulated President Hichilema for the appointments of diplomatic staff into foreign service.

He said that President Hichilema’s methodical approach will yield benefits that will accrue to the country in line with Zambia’s Foreign Policy Document.
