Mulonga’s K76 million water, sanitation project commenced

Mulonga Water Supply and Sanitation Company (MWSC) has started the K76 million water and sanitation project aimed at improving service delivery.

MWSC Acting Public Relations Manager Bright Mtonga said the works are part of the €156 million Zambia Water and Sanitation Project (ZWSP) and will cover Chingola, Chililabombwe and Mufulira respectively.

Mr Mtonga said the works would involve rehabilitation of selected parts of service pipes and associated fittings, refurbishing of filters at water treatment plants and drilling of bore holes.

He said the services are expected to improve as a result of the new pipe networks.

Mr Mtonga said the emphasis is on reduction in water wastage and improvement in service availability and reliability

He said the works will connect new areas to water and sanitation network.

Mr Mtonga said among beneficiaries are communities in peri-urban areas were eight bore holes will be drilled in different locations.

“Customers have for a long time complained about the level of services which have been negatively impacted upon by old infrastructure. With this development the fruits of the ZWSP will be visible to customers and stakeholders,” he said.

He said these rehabilitation works and purchase of fittings and other equipment is part of the Priority Early Works under the main ZWSP.

Mr Mtonga said the physical works of the main project will be implemented soon and will go a long way in raising the service levels.

He said the works in Mufulira will involve construction of water and sewerage networks in Butondo, Kamuchanga, Mupambe, Kantanshi and Kantanshi Extension.

And in Chingola the areas covered Chiwempala, Mulenga Township, Town Center.

Others are in Chililabombwe Kamenza East Township all this is expected to be completed in 12 months.
