Mulonga Water Supply and Sanitation Company (MWSC) Acting Managing Director Ruben Kaira says the company’s corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiatives are mainly towards water, health and sanitation.
Speaking when Mulonga Water donated assorted items worth K35, 000 to Chibolya clinic in Mufulira, Mr Kaira said the utility’s CSR initiatives focuses on the three key priority areas.
The things donated to the Clinic are a 5000 litres capacity water storage tank and 5 benches.
Chinolya clinic services a population of about 11,000 people and it is also used as a a cholera centre.
Mr Kaira said the company had realized the need to undertake such initiative at a broader scope.
He said that the company has undertaken a number of corporste social responsibility (CSR) initiative especially in assisting churches in their various fundraising ventures and other community based projects in a small way.
He said Mulonga Water CSR initiatives have a bias on health.
“Health issues are cardinal to human life hence the concern and responsibility to supply safe and clean water to a public clinic that needs to have 24\7 of water supply in order to operate efficiently and effectively.
“This clinic is used as a cholera centre whenever there is an outbreak. Therefore this donation is timely as it will cushion the water challenge here. This tank is for storing water so that when there is rationing of supply due to load shedding or maintenance works, the clinic can still have water all the time. The provision of storage tank and benches for patients will make a difference in their wellbeing,” he said.
He said this kind of donation will be extended to the two other towns it services which are Chingola and Chililabombwe in due course.
Mr Kaira said Mulonga Water wants to be part of entities that are fostering sustainable development in the community in identifying key priority areas.
He said the company pledges to have a conscious and to act in the interest of the general public regardless of the position in the society.
And Mufulira District Commissioner Hildah Kawesha expressed gratitude towards the gesture.
Ms Kawesha said that the gesture by Mulonga Water shows the preparedness of the utility firm in wanting to safeguard lives in case of an outbreak.
She said government has the mandate to provide but cannot produce tangible results if it doesnt have other partners involved.
And District Health Officer Representative Jeremiah Musa said the donation has come at the right time and that it will go a long way in servicing the community of Chibolya.
Mr Musa has urged the community and the staff to guard the facility jealously against vandalism so that it stands a test of time.
