Mufulira Municipal Council (MMC) Public Relations Manager Thandiwe Tembo has directed all street vendors conducting business in the town Centre to vacate the streets by tomorrow morning.

Ms Tembo said that the market Shelters have enough space to accommodate all those trading on the streets.

“As Mufulira Municipal Council, we have asked street vendors to vacate the streets, because we have noted with disappoints that traders have vacated the trading area and opted to trade in the streets which is very unhygienic.

Speaking in an interview today, Ms Tembo said that directive is meant to restore sanity in the town of Mufulira.

But street vendors are angered by the council’s decision to remove them from the streets.

Some vendors have implored Council to give them an ultimatum that will allow them find places in the market where they can conduct their businesses.

And one of the street vendors Bwalya Nkandu has bemoaned lack of trading spaces at Malela market adding that it is too small to accommodate them.

Ms Nkandu has called on the council to open the newly constructed Buteko Market.

Street vendors have called on relevant authorities in government to come to their aid so that the matter can be addressed as a soon as possible.
