Mufulira Council clears Town Centre of 65 illegal booths

By JOHN SAKALA
Mufulira Municipal Council has removed 65 illegal Mobile Money booths belonging to various service providers in town centre.

The exercise was carried out on Tuesday August 14, 2018 at from 23:00 hours to Wednesday 04:30 hours.

“As a Council we noted with great concern how these booths were mushrooming in the town centre when we had a designated place for them to trade along Pempuleni Street” said Thandiwe Tembo Assistant Public Relations Manager.

Ms Tembo said the booths were a danger to the motorists and pedestrians as they caused obstruction of the roads which could have led to accidents hence their removal.

“The Council will carry out similar exercises to ensure that there is sanity in the CBD in line with the requirements of the Law,” she said.

Mufulira Municipal Council has since appealed to the vendors to adhere to the instructions given by the Local Authority in order to prevent destruction to property in future.
