Paramount Chief Mpezeni of the Ngoni speaking people has castigated the Road Development Agency (RDA) in the region for being unable to deliver quality rural roads.
And the Paramount Chief has charged that the Chinese contractors that were contracted to work on the Chipata-Vubwi road have instead caused more damage by digging trenches that have made the road impassable.
Speaking when Ministry of Infrastructure Permanent Secretary (PS) Charles Mushota and his Eastern Province counterpart Chanda Kasolo called on him at Ephendukeni palace yesterday; the Paramount Chief said the RDA in the region is not working to his expectation.
He has bemoaned the poor state of the Chipata-Vubwi road, saying it is literally impassable as the trenches that were dug by the Chinese contractors have now become death traps.
The Chief has also bemoaned the poor state of the Chipata-Chadiza road.
And the Chief has urged RDA regional director Thomas Zimba to take the PS on a conducted tour of all roads and not only reaching urban areas were good roads have been put up, noting that a good road infrastructure is needed for development to take place.
Meanwhile, the Chief has charged that the Chinese contractors working on the one stop Mwami border post have not respect.
He says they encroached on his land and put up their offices without his authorization, wondering if they behave in a similar manner in their country.
