President Hakainde Hichilema has encouraged the nation to mourn Fourth President Rupiah Banda in unity and with dignity, respect and put aside any divisive issues.
President Hichilema says to attain this; he has reached out to Former President Edgar Lungu to mourn with him the gallant son of the soil whose legacy must be upheld.
President Hichilema said doing so will give due respect and honour to President Banda, so that the country can be dignified as it takes a different turn to reunite.
Speaking at the funeral house, he said Mr Banda was very instrumental in last year’s General Elections and will be remembered for the guidance he rendered during that time.
“I want encourage the family to continue with the unity that Mr Banda emphasised on and Government is available to render support, it is a pity that Mr Banda died shortly after he visited recently, Zambians should cherish his distinguished service that he gave to the country over many years and further urged youths to learn something from what he achieved,” he said.
And Family Representative Fisho Mwale said the BANDA family has not deviated from Government’s decision to bury Mr Banda at the Presidential burial site as opposed to some rumours.
Mr Mwale said the family is united on the matter and will continue to uphold Mr Banda’s legacy in honour of what he believed in.
He also thanked President Hichilema for the support he rendered during the time Mr BANDA was unwell and even during the funeral.
