The current crops of footballers are being asked to emulate the determination and commitment of the fallen heroes who perished in the 1993 Gabon disaster.
Zambia is today marking the 28th anniversary of the disaster that claimed the National Soccer Team.
The squad was on the way to Senegal for a 1994 FIFA World Cup qualifier when the plane plunged into the Atlantic Ocean near Libreville.
Former Chipolopolo defender Mordon Malitoli (in shirt in the picture above) said the fallen heroes were hard-working.
Malitoli played with and against most of the players killed in the plane crush.
‘Players of nowadays are different from that crop. They should learn different things from the fallen heroes,’ Malitoli said.
‘Those players were hard working and more committed. They were also very strong,’ said the former Nkana and RoPs defender.
18 players, technical staff, a FAZ chairman, crew members and a journalist were the victims of the disaster.
