A Mopani Mine Nkana train derailed off it’s line while in transit to central shaft.
Copperbelt commanding officer Peacewell Mweemba said the accident occurred on February 13 at at 18:10 hours along Mopani Railway line near Ndoleshafye area.
“Brief facts are that Train number one of the Mine, whilst under the control of Morgan Kaunda aged 40 a driver, was traveling ( Tramming) between Mindolo Shaft to Central Shaft carrying ten wagons ( Hoppers) each weighing forty tonnes of copper ore.
Mr Mweemba said the goods train derailment caused three wagons to completely turn over to the other side, which spilled the material onto the ground.
He said that Five were derailed but still standing off-rail, whilst two were intact on the railway line.
Mr Mweemba said that Police also visited the scene together with Mine officials and are still assessing what could have caused the accident.
He added that the report has not yet officially been made, neither value is determined.
Mr Mweemba also said that the scene is being guarded by police to ensure safety
