Government says will save in excess of about K41 million per annum following the restructuring of the Ministry of Health headquarters.
Outgoing Minister of Health, Jonas Chanda said the annual cost for implementation of the new organization structure has reduced from about K89 million per annum to about K48 million per annum.
“The restructuring of the ministry headquarters is anticipated to benefit the ministry in maintaining a clean number of specialized staff at Ndeke House by re-deploying most staff back to the service delivery areas where they are most needed,” he said.
Dr Chanda said that no employee of the ministry will lose employment and staff that will be moved from the headquarters will be placed in the wider public service.
Speaking after his final Covid-19 update, Dr Chanda said the number of departments the ministry has had, finished in having top heavy structure that was affecting competence and service delivery due to disloyalty of functions and unclear reporting in some instances.
“766 health workers are expected to be recruited using treasury authority for 2021, this includes 200 in various medical positions to support the response towards the Covid-19 pandemic,’’ he said
