The Ministry of Health says it is not connected to the consignment of unauthorized vaccines which were seized by the Zambia Medicines Regulatory Authority (ZAMRA) as reported in some sections of the media.
Ministry of Health Permanent Secretary for Technical Services Kennedy Malama said the purported vaccines are not registered or authorized for use in Zambia and that they are not listed under the WHO emergency use listing.
ZAMRA issued a statement that it seized and destroyed a consignment of unauthorized vaccines named HAYAT-Vax which were imported by Chrismar Earth Moving Equipment.
Dr Malama said the country has continued recording an encouraging drop in Covid 19 cases, deaths, and hospitalizations.
Dr Malama explains that there are currently 1, 690 active cases and has called on the public to continue adhere to the Covid-19 protocols.
“The country is closely monitoring reports of the new C.1.2 variant recently reported in South Africa and the said variant has not yet been declared a variant of concern,” he said.
