The Electoral Commission of Zambia (ECZ) has postponed the mobile voter registration exercise which was expected to start on October 28, 2020 and end on November 30, 2020 to now start on November 9, 2020 and end on December 13, 2020.
ECZ Chief Electoral Officer, Patrick Nshindano says the postponement has been necessitated by the extension of the period of the mobile issuance of national registration cards-NRCs.
He says the commission wants to ensure all eligible voters are captured hence allowing for the issuance of NRCs exercise to end before starting the voter registration exercise.
And Mr Nshindano has clarified that all the voters on the old register will need to transition to the new one by visiting registration centers during the mobile registration period.
This was in response to a statement issued by Vice President, Inonge Wina last week that the old voters register will not be discarded.
Mr Nshindano was speaking at a media briefing in Lusaka.
