Government has increased minimum wage for domestic, shop keepers and general workers.
Labour and Social security Minister Brenda Tambatamba said the upward Revision of the minimum wage was arrived at after consultations with tripartite constituencies and other key stakeholders.
Ms Tambatamba said the minimum wage for domestic workers has been revised from 993 Kwacha 60 Ngwee to 1,300 Kwacha.
She adds the minimum wage for general workers has been increased from 1,698-Kwacha 60 ngwee to 2,313-kwacha 10 ngwee.
Speaking at a press briefing, Ms Tambatamba also said shop workers grade 1 minimum wage has been revised from 1,698 Kwacha 60 ngwee to 2,313 Kwacha 10 ngwee.
The Minister emphasized that the revised minimum wage will only apply to vulnerable categories of employees and not unionized workers.
Ms Tambatamba urged employers and workers who are covered under the minimum wages and conditions of employment orders to exercise patience as government finalize the process to revise the minimum wage.
She said the minimum wage will take effect in January next year.
