Miner at Nchanga Smelter fell off crane and dies

A miner at Nchanga Smelter in Chingola has died after falling off the crane where he was fixing a roof.

Copperbelt Deputy Police Chief Wamunyima Wamunyima  has confirmed the death of Gabbicas Siachipula 42, of 4 Katilungu Street in Chiwemapala which happened yesterday June 13, 2019 around 18:20 hours.

Mr Wamunyima said Siachipula an employee and a Senior supervisor of Dontek Engineering, a company contracted by Konkola Copper Mines fell from the height about 20 metres high of the crane as he was trying to fix the loose roof which was about to fall off.

He said Mr Siachipula has sustained a cut on the head, bruises on both legs.

“He was rushed to Nchanga South Mine Hospital where he was admitted but later died. The body is in Nchanga South Mine Hospital mortuary awaiting postmortem,” he said.
