Mr Nkhuwa said the third ambulance had received complete overhaul at cost of K80, 000.

He said a brand new engine was fitted and the the body of the vehicle was painted at Matty Investments.

“I had observed that most of the ambulances were down thereby offering a challenge to health delivery. But we are here to easy the burden the health sector is facing.

“The Health Office had written to my office for some money but I opted to fix these ambulances at Matty Investments garage. And I can say that we have spent more than the money they had requested,” he said.

Dr Davies Mwewa receives the ambulance from Chingola MP Matthew Nkhuwa on behalf of District Health Office.

Speaking at the handover, Chingola District Health Director Davies Mwewa said the ambulances will help reduce referal time for patients.

Dr Mwewa said to reduce maternal deaths, referral time is very cardinal.

He said with ambulance in nearly all the major clinics, would help in recording almost zero maternal death.
