Mansa Council extends trading license renewal period

By ALICE NACHILEMBE
Mansa Municipal Council (MMC) has extended the trading license renewal period for 2019 business licenses.

The local authority has noted with concern that many clients haven’t met the minimum requirements for conducting business within the district hence the extension.

MMC Assistant Public Relations Manager Gladys Saili said the decision was arrived at after the traders’ concern over the councils’ decision to implement the  Fees and Fines (Fee and Penalty Unit Value) (Amendment).

Ms Saili said the traders requested that the deadline for renewals be extended to enable them pay for the licenses without the penalty fees.

This was during a stakeholder’s engagement meeting organized by the Local Authority to sensitize the business stakeholders.

She said this will also encourage compliance from the traders, the council has allowed the traders to make payments in instalments.

Ms Saili said the local authority has appealed to all traders to take advantage of the extension period to renew their Licenses.

She said the extended period is from December 5th to December 31st, 2018 and after this period those found wanting will be prosecuted as stipulated in the Statutory Instrument No. 70 of 2011.

Ms Saili said the local authority has commended some business owners who have complied with the directive to paint their buildings.
