A-26-year- old man has committed suicide by throwing himself in the well within his premises due to much debt.
Acting Police Spokesperson Danny Mwale said Lewis Mukuni of Garden house in Lusaka died after committing suicide on May 9, 2022 when he was discovered missing from his room.
Mr Mwale said preliminary investigations revealed that Mukuni’s cellular phone was found in his room with a number of saved draft messages saying that he had accumulated so much debt in his life and that he had no means of repaying back.
He said On May 10, 2022, around 07 hours Mukuni’s body was discovered floating in a well by one of the family members who went to draw water.
Mr Mwale said the Police and fire brigade officers managed to retrieve the body which was found tight around the neck as well as both legs with a rope.
He said the body was deposited in the University Teaching Hospital Mortuary awaiting postmortem examination and burial.
An inquiry file has since been opened into the matter.
