Man sued for virginity damaged charged with defilement

A-23-year old man of Ndola has been charged with sexual defilement, after  failing to pay K5000 compensation settled for damaging a-15-year-old girl virginity.

After the man was taken to court for failing to pay what both the victim and the defiles family agreed upon he was charged with thee count of sexual defilement.

Copperbelt Police Commanding Officer Peacewell Mweemba said the victim’s and the defilers’ families met and agreed that the victim’s family would be compensated an amount of K5000, which was to be paid in K500 installments per month.

Mr Mweemba said the accused failed to fulfill the agreement, and that’s how the victim’s family took the matter to the Local Court and sued for destroying the victim’s virginity.

He said when the Local Court Magistrate learnt that the victim was 15 years old, he decided to engage Masala Police officers from victim support unit.

Mr Mweemba said the officers quickly rushed to the Local Court and apprehend the suspect Philip Sakala for the offence of Defilement.

Brief facts are that on October 24, 2022 the father to the victim a Mr Ngosa woke up in the morning and found that his daughter did not spend her night in the house.

He then went to search for her in the company of the victim’s elder sister.

The search led to Philip Sakala’s home, where the victim was found. Upon being found, the suspect was warned by the victim’s father to stop the habit of getting his child (victim) to his house.

On December 25, 2022, the victim ran away from home and spent a night out, again, she was found with Philip in his home.

When questioned by her father why she was again at his home, she explained that she had been threatened to be beaten if she ever refused to go to his house.

The father then took the victim to Kan’gonga mission hospital, where she was examined and treated.
The official report of defilement was made on January 10, 2023, at 12:30hrs. A medical report form was issued to the victim and has since been taken to Ndola Teaching Hospital for further medical examination and treatment.
