Police in Lusaka have arrested a- 54-year-old man for allegedly collecting money from 58 people with the view of assisting them to obtain National Registration Cards.

Acting Police Spokesperson Danny Mwale  said Dismas Daka of house Number C 610 John Laing Compound was apprehended by members of the public in Kanyama Compound after he was found charging people K30 each as fee for NRC.

Mr Mwale said Police found him with money amounting to K330.50 which he claimed that the money he was charging was meant for transportation to the place where NRCs were issued.

He said this occurred on September 1, 2020 at around 16 hours in Kanyama Compound.

Mr Mwale said he has since been charged for obtaining money by False Pretenses contrary to the Laws of Zambia.

And in a related development, Police have arrested two people identified as George Sivo 37 of house number 28/97 and Paul Simwinga 42 of unknown house number both of John Laing Compound in Lusaka.

This was after Police in the area received a report from members of the public that two men purporting to be officials from the Ministry of Community Development and Social Welfare were registering people for the social cash transfer money at Twikatane Community Hall.

Mr Mwale said the incident happened on September 1, 2020 at 15:30 hours.

He said the duo were found with a list of names alleged to be beneficiaries for the social cash transfer.

“Preliminary investigations revealed that the two were not public workers. They have been charged for the offence of Impersonating Public Officers contrary to Section 102 of the Penal Code Chapter 87 of the Laws of Zambia.
In both cases, suspects are in police custody awaiting court appearance,” he said.
