Police have detained a 28-year-old man of Lusaka for the offence of attempted defilement.
The man identified as Charles Ngonga is alleged to have attempted to defile a-15-year-old Grade 8 pupil after dragging her into the maize field while she was on her way to school.
Deputy Police Spokesperson Danny Mwale said facts are that the victim was going to school and a man she does not know grabbed her by the hand and dragged her into the nearby maize field where he was about to undress her.
Mr Mwale said that members of the public noticed what was happening and immediately apprehended the suspect who they later handed over to Police together with the victim.
He said the incident occurred today, February 28, 2023 around 09:40 hours in Libala residential area.
The suspect is detained in Police custody.
