29- year-old man of Chingola’s Soweto Township has died after he was shot by a Chinese National he and his friend were trying to rob.
The incident occurred on Christmas day, December 25, 2022 in Gymkhana at Mr Xuan Tinglong’s 47, property around 21:00 hours.
Copperbelt Police Commanding Officer Peacewell Mweemba identified the criminal as Regan Lumano 27, of Soweto who died hours later after he was admitted to Nchanga North General Hospital.
Mr Mweemba said after discovering that his property was invaded, Mr Tinglong started firing warning shots in the process a stray bullet injured one of the robbers.
He said that unknown criminals who were armed with iron bars, jumped over the wall fence into the yard of Mr Tinglong, and stole one window frame.
Mr Mweemba said when the criminals were challenged they started throwing stones at him.
He said the Regan was hit in the right side of the chest, and sustained a bullet wound.
“After the matter was reported Officers were dispatched to the scene of crime and upon inspection it was discovered that the criminals jumped over the wall fence into the yard and stole the window frame. The Window frame was recovered at the scene,” he said.
Mr Mweemba said the pistol has been retrieved (TISAS SERIAL NO TO620_D6A03553 black and silver) Calibre 9mm and investigations has been instituted.
The body of Regan has since been deposited to Nchanga North General Hospital Mortuary.
