Man gets 5yrs for stealing floor tiles

The Kitwe magistrate court has sentence a 28 year old man of Malebeka Township to five years imprisonment with hard labour for stealing floor Tiles worth over K1100.

Felix Mwewa of Malebeka Township was charged with theft contrary to the laws of Zambia.

Particulars of the offense are that on dates unknown but between March 3 and 4,2019 in Kitwe, Mwewa stole tiles worth k11 635 the property of Steven kavunga.

Appearing before Senior Resident Magistrate Osward Chibalo for plea,the accused person admitted having stolen the said property.

Mwewa told the court that he stole the tiles so that he raises some money from them as the complainant who is his boss owed him about k7000,the money that had accumulated for non payment of salaries for about nine months.

He told the court that he worked for Kavunga as a caretaker and was supposed to be paid k500 as salary every month and that the complainant had defaulted for close to nine months.

He told court that the complainant had told him he would only pay him his money when the building project had completed.

And Magistrate Chibalo said upon the accused persons own admission of the offence he had found him guilty as charged and was convicting him accordingly.

In Mittigation Mwewa begged for the court’s liniencey starting that he had learnt a lesson.

And Magistrate Chibalo said he was sentencing him to five years imprisonment with hard labour and that if he was not happy with the sentence,he had a right to appeal within 14 days.
