Man 77 arrested for defilement

Police in Kitwe have arrested a 77 year old man in connection with the defilement of a 9-year-old girl.

Police spokesperson Esther Katongo confirmed the incident to The Independent Observer in a statement.

Ms Katongo said it is alleged that on the material day around 19:00 hours, the victim in the company of her friend went to visit Geshom Mulubwa popularly known as ‘bashikulu’   (grandfather) at his home.

She said while there Mulubwa asked the victim for sexual favor in exchange with K1.00 coin.

Ms Katongo said the incident happened on February 2, 2021 around 1900 hours in Luangwa Malembeka Township in Kitwe.

She said the friend to the victim went to ease herself living the victim in the house with the suspect and it was at that point the victim was defiled from the suspect’s bedroom given a K1.00.

Ms Katongo said the victim did not report to her Aunt however the friend of the victim reported to her mother what had happened to her friend.

She said the suspect was apprehended from his home by relatives of the victim and handed him to police.

Ms Katongo said a medical report form has been issued to the victim for medical examination while the suspect is in police custody.

In a similar incident In Muchinga Police are investigating a report of defilement involving a one year, five months girl reported to have been defiled by unknown person.

Ms Katongo said the Victim’s mother went to take a bath leaving the child with her elder sister aged 11 years.

She said whilst the sister was in the house, the child now victim went outside without the knowledge of her elder sister and when the mother returned she  inquired on the whereabouts of the victim she showed ignorance.

“It was at this point when they started looking for her outside a after a while, they saw the baby heading home crying. Then the mother picked the baby and spotted blood on her private part. She rushed her to the clinic where she was advised to report to the police,” she said.
