A 75-year-old man, has been arrested and detained for allegedly defiling a 13-year-old girl with an intellectual disability.
The incident occurred on February 2, 2025, at the suspect’s residence in Mtendere A Section, Lusaka.
Police Spokesperson Rae Hamoonga said that the victim’s parents at some point were tenants renting in the suspect’s house until January 22, 2025 when they moved out to a nearby house within Mtendere Township and the victim who still has friends who live near the suspects home regularly visits their old house to see her friends.
Mr Hamoonga said, on February 2, 2025 at around 15:00 hours, the victim decided to visit her friends at her former house and the suspect upon seeing her, decided to divert her by sending her to buy him cigarettes at a nearby Shop and gave her an instruction to put the cigarettes in his house once back.
He said the victim delivered the cigarettes and the suspect took advantage of the lone and quiet environment and pounced on her, by forcefully having Unlawful carnal knowledge of the victim.
He later promised to give her money and asked her not to reveal anything to anyone.
The victim came out of the suspect’s house crying which attracted the attention of her close friend who was passing by whom upon inquiry she narrated the whole ordeal to her and who later informed her parents who in turn reported the matter to the police.
A Medical Report Form was issued to the victim to access Medical attention and has been certified to be consistent with the allegation. The suspect has been detained in custody for the offence of Defilement.
